Using food and animal waste to create clean energy may seem a clever idea, but until now it hasn’t been viable due to the huge transporting and processing costs involved. SEaB Energy has cracked the problem, by using shipping containers to convert the waste into energy onsite. Its two patented products – the Flexibuster and the Muckbuster – use a bacterial process which sees bacteria eats the waste. The produced biogas is then converted into electricity. Water too can be captured. For instance, 80% of food waste is water, which can then be captured and turned into a water resource for the site.


By using waste to create clean energy onsite, SEaB Energy are saving companies, such as large NHS hospitals, money. The shipping containers arrive onsite ready to go, making the process very simple for consumers.


Currently, most waste is treated in big centralised facilities outside of urban areas, but trucking the waste out there is a costly and time-consuming process. These 20ft shipping containers fit and treat waste in an urban environment and will be a brilliant answer to treating waste in the world’s growing megacities. By 2050, 66% of the world’s population will live in urban areas.


SEaB Energy recently graduated from the PeaceTech Accelerator in April 2018, which culminated in an undisclosed Series A round.
